Capture Your 365 - Day 3

Day 3 - Winter Sports    Skiing | Sledding | Bundling Up Inside

It was a little challenging thinking about winter sports at the moment. Being summer here and experiencing heatwave conditions (it's predicted to be 43°C/109.4°F today) made it tricky to set up something with ice from the freezer. So I decided to concentrate on our winter sports. These are my son's footy boots and football ready for the start of the Rugby League season in March.

Capture Your 365 - Day 2

Day 2 - Goals    Intention | Resolution | Target

Another goal, in addition to completing a photo a day project, is to get more active. So I hope to be using these much more.

Happy New Year 2014

Day 1 - Celebrate     With Food and Drink | Cheer | The New Year

Happy 2014 everyone!

So with every new year comes new year's resolutions.   Mine don't always last, but I'll keep trying.   This year I'm planning to do a P365.  Last year I failed miserably, only making it as far as March.   Once again, I'm joining the wonderful community over at Capture Your 365.   Here you can find monthly lists along with a forum and gallery.   The daily prompts, which arrive in your inbox, are very helpful if you need that extra bit on inspiration.   You can start at anytime and it's free.   So are you in?

The theme for Day 1 is Celebrate.   What better way to celebrate the new year than with some fireworks.   I wasn't able to take my tripod with me for this shot, so I had to improvise.  I found a fence that I could lean against, set my camera to Bulb mode and held the shutter for about one second.  I was quite surprise with how this shot turned out.  My kids suggested it looked like feathers or even a fern.

Bloom Where You're Planted

Texture: KK_canvasmagic by Kim Klassen; Screen at 50% opacity.

Tulips are one of my favourite flowers.  Unfortunately, the climate is not cold enough where I live for growing tulips.

I don't normally buy flowers but I was fortunate to find a bunch while grocery shopping the other day, so I thought I'd treat myself.

Plus, it's a great excuse to take more photos.

ps     Speaking of flowers, my garden is looking a little worse for wear at the moment.  Not a flower in sight in the backyard. There is a very good explanation for this:   puppies.   That's right, puppies (as in more than one - what was I thinking?).   Our two new additions to the family arrived a couple of months ago.   Pictures are coming soon.

Marigold - but not as we know it

The theme for today's CY365 is 'White'.

My intention for this prompt was to go into the garden and photograph a white flower, but there were none around today.

So I photographed a bright orange Marigold from my vegetable garden and with the help of Photoshop, created a white flower.

I love Photoshop!

Dew Drops

The prompt for today's CY365 is 'On The Edge'.

Thankfully, Mother Nature was happy to oblige and provided these delicate dew drops on the edge of a rose leaf.

A Touch Of Yellow

Isn't it great when something unexpected (in a good way) happens with your photography?

The prompt for CY365 was 'A Touch Of Yellow'.   I went out into the garden and couldn't find any yellow flowers.   Then I couldn't help but notice the ever growing weeds in the back garden, and saw the yellow centres of the Cobbler's Peg flowers.   Perfect for the prompt I thought.

Then just as I started to press the shutter, this little bee flew into the frame.  Now this was perfect.
