Bloom Where You're Planted

Texture: KK_canvasmagic by Kim Klassen; Screen at 50% opacity.

Tulips are one of my favourite flowers.  Unfortunately, the climate is not cold enough where I live for growing tulips.

I don't normally buy flowers but I was fortunate to find a bunch while grocery shopping the other day, so I thought I'd treat myself.

Plus, it's a great excuse to take more photos.

ps     Speaking of flowers, my garden is looking a little worse for wear at the moment.  Not a flower in sight in the backyard. There is a very good explanation for this:   puppies.   That's right, puppies (as in more than one - what was I thinking?).   Our two new additions to the family arrived a couple of months ago.   Pictures are coming soon.

Flowers in the Grass

Texture: KK Violet by Kim Klassen; Divide at 85% opacity.

When I was walking out in the backyard yesterday, I came across these beautiful flowers growing in the grass.

They were about 5mm in size and in various shades of purple.

I have no idea what sort of flowers they are but they are so pretty (and a good excuse to put off the mowing for a couple of days).

Eucalyptus curtisii (Plunkett Mallee)

Native to Queensland, Australia, the Eucalyptus curtisii or Plunkett Mallee is a small tree growing to between two and seven metres in height.

Clusters of creamy, white flowers appear in late spring.

Green Tree Frogs

The theme for Texture Tuesday this week is "Look Up".

I didn't have any recent photos which I thought would be suitable, so I went back into the archives and found a photo from January this year - Green Tree Frogs.

On this particular evening, I remember going into the backyard to get out into the cool air.  We heard a noise coming from the roof.   When we looked up, there were more than 20 green tree frogs looking down at us.

For this image I used the texture "Unleashed" by Kim Klassen.

Nerima Gardens

One of our favourite places to visit during the school holidays is Queens Park, in particular the Japanese themed Nerima Gardens.

The gardens are a place of peace and tranquility.

My Son brought his camera along too.

There is plenty of wildlife to see.

We found the cutest pair of baby Noisy Miner birds sitting on a branch.   They looked so angelic ..... till their Mum came back with some food.

There are so many different paths to explore.

It's hard to believe that the gardens are only a five minute walk away from the CBD.

Warmth

participating in texture tuesday

I've been watching the latest series of Masterchef Australia.

On a recent episode, the contestants were required to make a sandwich, which included making their own bread. So, I thought I'd give breadmaking a bit of a try.

Warm, freshly baked bread is perfect for those cold, Autumm days were are experiencing right now.

How to Colourize Textures

I love using textures on my photos. But what if you have a texture that you absolutely love and the colour doesn't work with the photo? You can colourize the texture to make it the colour you want.

Here's how I do it using Photoshop CS5:

Hope you found this tutorial useful.
